SGT privacy policy

How SGT: SKU and Barcode Generator handles your store's information, in plain words.

SingleTec · Last updated 13 October 2026

The short version

  • SGT reads your store's products to create SKUs and barcodes and to print labels. It writes only the SKU and barcode fields you ask it to.
  • It does not store your customers' personal data: no names, emails, phone numbers or addresses.
  • It keeps your app settings (label templates, auto-generate settings, code counters) so the app works the same next time.
  • We don't sell or rent data, and we don't use it for advertising.
  • 48 hours after you uninstall, Shopify asks us to delete your store's data, and we do (details under How long we keep it).
  • Questions or requests: [email protected].

Who we are

SGT: SKU and Barcode Generator ("SGT", "the app") is a Shopify app made by SingleTec ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app reads from your Shopify store, what it keeps, who helps us run it, and your choices. It applies to merchants who install SGT and to the people who use it in their Shopify admin.

For your store's data, you (the merchant) decide what happens to it and we process it to provide the app; where data protection law uses these terms, you are the controller and we are your processor. For the information you send us directly (support chat, feedback, emails), we are the controller.

This website, sgtapps.com, has its own short website privacy notice.

What the app reads from your store

When you install SGT, Shopify asks you to approve its access. The app uses it as follows:

InformationWhy
Products and variants: titles, options, SKUs, barcodes, prices, stock, weights, images, product type, vendor, tags and metafieldsTo create SKUs and barcodes, check for duplicates, import codes from your CSV, and draw your labels. The app writes only the SKU and barcode fields, and only when you ask it to (or for new products, if you switch on auto-generate).
Store details: store domain, Shopify store ID, currency, online store address, Shopify planTo run the app for the right store, show prices and links correctly on labels, and decide which app plan applies.
Your app subscription (through Shopify Billing)To know which features your plan includes. Payment details stay with Shopify; we never see card numbers.

Only if you choose them, the print page can also read:

  • Orders: only the products and quantities on the orders you pick, to print labels for them. No customer details are requested. Shopify classes order data as protected customer data; SGT asks only for the lowest level, without names, emails, phone numbers or addresses.
  • Purchase orders, transfers and received deliveries: the products and quantities on the ones you pick.

These are asked for the first time you use them, through Shopify's own permission box. You can decline, and you can remove them later in Shopify's app settings. What they return is shown to you to print labels and is not stored.

Files you import to print labels (Excel, CSV or PDF) are read in your browser and are not uploaded: only the product codes found in them are sent to look up your products.

What we keep

WhatWhy
Your store's domain, Shopify store ID and the date you first installed SGTTo link your settings to your store, and to honour the plan your store is entitled to.
The app's access key for your store (issued by Shopify)So the app can work with your store, including auto-generate in the background. Deleted when you uninstall.
Label templates, auto-generate settings, code formatsSo your settings are there next time. Templates can contain text you typed for your labels and the link to a logo you host on Shopify.
Code counters, your GS1 company prefix and numbering patternsSo new codes continue from where the last ones stopped and don't repeat codes already on your products.
A count of codes generated this month (Free plan)To apply the Free plan's monthly limit.
Your star rating, if you gave one in the appSo the app doesn't ask again.
A record of recent generation jobsTo show their progress and results on the Home page. Deleted automatically after 24 hours.

While a job runs (generating codes, finding duplicates, importing a CSV), the products and codes it works on are held in our job queue, and new-product notifications for auto-generate pass through Google Cloud. These copies are temporary: job data is removed automatically after the job, usually within a day, and notifications once they are processed.

Our servers keep short technical logs to keep the app running and fix problems. They can include your store domain, product or code values the app was working on when something failed, and the text of feedback you sent us. They never include access keys, and they are kept only for a limited time by our hosting provider.

What you send us

  • Support chat (Crisp, inside the app): when you open the app, the chat is told your store's domain, Shopify plan, and the store owner's name and email from Shopify, so we can recognise your store and reply. Your messages are kept in Crisp so we can follow up.
  • Feedback and feature ideas you write in the app, with an email address only if you choose to add one. They are emailed to us and not saved in the app's database.
  • Emails you send to us.

How we use information

  • To provide the app: create and write codes, find duplicates, import codes, print labels, run auto-generate.
  • To apply your plan and the Free plan's limits.
  • To give support and reply to feedback.
  • To keep the app secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
  • To improve the app, using what merchants tell us and how the app performs. We don't use tracking or analytics tools inside the app.

We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We don't use it for automated decisions with legal or similar effects.

If you're in the EU, the UK or a similar jurisdiction: we process information to provide the app you installed (performance of a contract), for support, security and improvement (our legitimate interests), where the law requires it (legal obligation), and with your consent where we ask for it, such as an optional email address.

Who helps us run the app

These service providers process information for us, only to run the app and under their own security and privacy commitments:

ProviderWhat for
ShopifyThe platform the app runs in, its API, and billing.
RenderHosts the app's servers and its job queue.
MongoDB AtlasThe app's database (settings and records listed above).
Google CloudPasses new-product notifications to auto-generate.
Google Workspace (Gmail)Our email: support, feedback and feature ideas.
CrispThe support chat inside the app.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or users' safety, or to a buyer if our business is sold (who would have to keep this policy's promises).

How long we keep it

  • When you uninstall, the app's access key for your store is deleted straight away.
  • 48 hours later, Shopify sends us a request to delete your store's data. We then delete your label templates, auto-generate settings, generation history, your rating, and any access key left.
  • We keep only your store's ID, domain and install date, its code counters, GS1 prefix and numbering patterns, and this month's Free-plan count. These are numbers about your store, not personal data, and they let a returning store keep its plan and continue its numbering without repeating codes. Email [email protected] if you want them deleted too.
  • If your store reinstalls SGT before that request arrives, nothing is deleted.
  • Generation history is deleted after 24 hours; job data usually within a day; notifications once processed.
  • Support chats and emails are kept as long as needed to help you, and deleted on request unless the law requires us to keep them.

Your customers' data: SGT doesn't store it. When a customer asks your store to see or delete their data, Shopify tells the app, and there is nothing in SGT to return or delete.

How we protect it

  • All traffic between your browser, the app, Shopify and our providers is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS).
  • The database and job queue are not public, and only SingleTec can reach them. Our database provider encrypts stored data.
  • The app asks only for the access it needs, and asks for extra access only when you use a feature that needs it.
  • If a breach ever affected your information, we would tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to fix problems quickly.

Your rights and choices

You can ask us to see, correct, delete or export the information we hold about you or your store, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw consent you gave. Email [email protected] from the store owner's email, or tell us in the app's chat. We reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your data protection authority.

California and other US states: we don't sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we don't process sensitive personal information. You can ask what we hold, ask us to correct or delete it, and we won't treat you differently for asking.

Choices in the app: you can decline or later remove the extra permissions (orders, purchase orders, transfers), delete label templates at any time, and switch auto-generate off.

Cookies and browser storage

The app doesn't use advertising or analytics cookies. It keeps a few preferences in your browser's local storage (for example, that you closed the "What's new" card, your label editor grid setting, and your last code settings). Shopify sets a short sign-in cookie during installation that expires after a minute. The support chat (Crisp) uses its own storage to keep your conversation.

Where data is processed

Our service providers may process information in the United States, the European Union and other countries. Where the law requires it, transfers are covered by safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Children

SGT is a business tool for Shopify merchants and isn't meant for children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

When the app changes what it collects or how it uses information, we update this page and its date. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app before it applies.
